Data Center Engineer

Job description

At UpCloud you’ll be literally building the cloud.

Sometimes, cloud technologies can be offered as a patchwork of ready-made solutions. At UpCloud, however, you'll be working with something that we've built from the ground up. You'll know exactly what you're dealing with and you'll have an impact on how to make it even better. You'll find yourself in an environment where fresh ideas and technical discussions are encouraged and a flat hierarchy is valued.

Our existing infrastructure relies on open-source Linux tools and in-house automation built with Go, Python & Perl with a heavy emphasis on moving towards a distributed microservices architecture.

We are looking for a Data Center Engineer to join a team of infrastructure wizards in a growing and innovative cloud company. Your position would mainly focus on working with our global availability zones in collaboration with the current team and remote hands. You are eager to travel to do hardware maintenance and build new zones. Secondly, you would work with our core infra on the OS level and later join our on-call rotation. Don’t worry, we won’t throw you to the deep end way too quickly.

And if you’re wondering what next the position gives all the tools to self-develop yourself allowing career paths to multiple directions.

Job requirements

Our view is that to be successful in this role, we expect you to have experience and interest in several of the following domains:

  • Proven experience in working with Data Center environments.
  • Ability to travel even on short notice.
  • Linux server administration (Bare-metal and virtualized)
  • Good problem-solving skills and ability to comprehend complex environments
  • Good understanding and hands-on experience of basics of the Internet and relevant server-side applications (DNS, HTTP etc.)
  • Basic knowledge of server/networking hardware and Data Centers and their monitoring
  • Documentation skills

At UpCloud we'll provide you with an easy-going environment that promotes work-life balance and self-development. You'll be encouraged to experiment, fail, learn, succeed amazingly, be brave to propose new things, agree and disagree.

This role can be performed from our office in the heart of Helsinki or remotely in Europe.
